LANGTANG VALLEY & GOSAINKUND TREKKING

Langtang Valley & Gosainkund Trekking is an adventure that takes you around both scenic and picturesque countries of the Langtang Himal range.

An exciting walk from green dense forest lined with rhododendron, pines, oaks, and fir trees to arid barren terrain. Trekkers can experience all types of landscapes, climates, and cultures in one single journey on Langtang Valley & Gosainkund Trekking.

The adventure begins with interesting overland from Kathmandu, heading high cooler hills on leaving the warmer farm areas to cooler hills. The walk starts from a nice traditional Syabrubesi village, as the climb leads into a narrow gorge covered in dense forest. Following the Langtang glacial river upstream past isolated farm villages, and then entering a wide-open valley at Kyanjin. A beautiful settlement with many nice lodges to cater to the needs of travelers, with rooms facing views of snow peaks.

At Kyanjin, having a day off for a scenic hike to higher ridges is the best way to get acclimatized. Climb on top of the view-points of Tserko or Kyanjin-Ri above 4,000 m high, rewards a spectacular panorama of surrounding high mountains.

After a pleasant and wonderful time, our next adventure leads to much higher areas, heading towards the Gosainkund pond. A famous pilgrimage spot for Hindu followers as well as for some Buddhists also. Once a year a religious festival is held in the full moon time of August, as per the Hindu Lunar calendar.

Thousands of devotees and pilgrims pay homage to the holy glacial pond of Gosainkund, taking a dip and a bathe. From Gosainkund, the adventure continues towards the highest point to cross East Laurabinaya or Gosainkund-La pass at 4,609 m /15,100 feet.

A great change of environment and landscapes, as adventure leads to east of Langtang Himal close around Helambu region. Walk follows around the high ridges with a few ups and more downhill, reaching a scenic top at Chisapani.

A lovely settlement, located high above the eastern rim of Kathmandu valley as well on route to famous Nagarkot and Helambu. From Chisapani enjoy the fantastic views of sunrise and sunsets that reflect on an array of Himalayan peaks towards the north.

Chisapani is the last place for overnights on the high hills of the adventure, the next morning a gradual descent to Sundarijal. Walk from Chisapani all downhill through nice cool forest and farm villages reaching farm town in Sundarijal.

On completing the trek, a short drive brings you to the hustle and bustle city life of Kathmandu. After a great memorable experience and adventure on Langtang Valley and Gosainkund Trekking.

    Best Seasons:

    Langtang Valley & Gosainkund Trekking, the best seasons are in spring and autumn/fall, where days are crystal clear for views and pleasant walks.

    The springtime’s begins from March till May, the high seasons for trekking around Nepal Himalayas and to Langtang Valley.

    Most days are clear fine and bright with sunshine, which can get overcast in the late afternoon. Chances of snowfall sometimes on higher terrain, cold in the morning late afternoon, and nighttime. The mid-hills are lively with wildflowers in seasonal bloom, especially the rhododendron of various species from trees to short bush.

    The next best time is in autumn/fall, one of the peak seasons. For trekking around the Himalayas and Langtang Valley & Gosainkund, most days are crystal clear for views and scenic walks. However, the days are shorter due to fewer sun-light hours, much colder morning and late afternoon till night time.

    Chances of snowfall sometimes during the walk around higher areas above 2,000 m high, but with a clear starry night sky.

    Religion, Culture of Langtang Himal region:

    Tamang are the main inhabitants of the Central and Langtang Himalaya range as far as to Ganesh and Jugal Himal areas. Around Langtang Valley trek. Populated by the indigenous Tamang tribes, follows Tibetan Buddhism known as Mahayana or Greater Wheel. Established by great Guru Rinpoche Padamasamba in the 7th Century, reforming Buddhism which was near to extinct.

    The culture, tradition, and heritage are similar to its Tibetan predecessors, the Tamang are farmers and raise livestock. As well famous craftsman and artist painting Thangka the religious arts of Buddhism religions.

    Interesting Tamang villages on this trek are Dhunche town, Syabrubesi and Langtang village, other places are temporary settlements from Syabrubesi and Langtang villages.


Detail Itinerary

Day 1:

Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

On arrival in Kathmandu at Nepal international airport, received by our staff and guide for short drive to your hotel. Located amidst the main city, check into your rooms and join in for trek briefing with other members of the trip. Our guide provides information about the trekking trails, local lodge, and culture and so on. Evening group dinner an introduction to Nepalese meals and traditions.
Day 2:

At Kathmandu for trek preparation and sightseeing tour

Enjoy the free day for trek preparation and join for an interesting sightseeing tour around historical, cultural and religious places. Kathmandu is steeped with World Heritage Sites, our city / cultural guide will takes you around the great places of historical wonders of great interest. Afternoon free for individual activities and trek preparation.
Day 3:

Drive to Syabrubesi 1,470 m via Dhunche town 1,950 - 06 hrs.

Early breakfast and depart for Langtang Valley Trekking, a drive of 5-6 hours exciting overland journey through Nepal countryside. Riding on main busy interesting highway then reaching at Dhunche, the headquarter town of Rasuwa district and Langtang Himal region. From Dhunche another hours of drive downhill on winding road reaching Syabrubesi village for overnight in the comfort of a nice simple lodge.
Day 4:

Trek to Lama Hotel 2, 350 m -06 hours.

After fresh morning with mountain air, first day walk of the adventure starts on gradual trail to cross a bridge over Bhote Kosi or upper Trisuli River, after the bridge climb leads to a ridge past scattered Tamang farm villages and terraces to enter into cool alpine forest of tall rhododendron-hemlocks-oaks-magnolia and fir tree lines. Around this forested area where rare and endangered Red Panda habitats, which is seldom seen along the walk on to Lama Hotel for overnight stop. Lama Hotel placed in a clearing surrounded within beautiful forests near a raging Upper Trisuli River.
Day 5:

Trek to Langtang village 3,310 m - 05 hours.

From Lama Hotel onward walks lead into a gorge covered with dense thick forest offering views of Langtang Lirung along the walk to reach at Ghoretabela, located in the midst of green woodland, after a pleasant rest walk continues with short ups into a forest to reach at Langtang village for overnight stop. Langtang village was badly destroyed in 2015 earthquakes, this village is slowly coming back to normal; here visit around Tamang farm houses enrich with old culture of Buddhism religion.
Day 6:

Trek to Kyanjin Gompa 3,749 m - 04 hours.

After breakfast, a short walk today to Kyanjin Gompa located in the heart of beautiful Langtang valley. Walk starts with short climb as the gorge opens into a wide scenic valley, where tree lines drops for short alpine bushes of azalea (dwarf rhododendron) and juniper bushes with dramatic views of snow covered peaks. Slowly walk reaches Kyanjin at 3,479 m high surrounded with views of high mountains. At Kyanjin with overnight stop, afternoon time relax and catch magnificent views and explore its small Cheese factory, established and support of Swiss technical assistance.
Day 7:

Rest-Day for acclimatization and hike to view points.

A free day for acclimatization as well for exciting hike to Tsego-Ri or Kyanjin-Ri at above 4,700 m high. Offers grand panorama of Ghengu Liru (Langtang II 6,571 m / 21,560 feet), Langtang Lirung (7,425 m / 23,765 feet). Includes Kim shun (6,745 m / 22,137 feet) with Shalbachum (6,918 m / 22, 699 feet) and towards south. Views of Chimsedang high ridge with Naya-Kanga 5,846 m or Ganjala Himal with Gangchenpo and Tillman’s beautiful Fluted Peak. Extends towards east of Jugal Himal, ending with views of Dorje Lakpa (6,966 m / 22,854 feet). The views also includes some high peaks across the border of Tibet.
Day 8:

Trek to Lama Hotel - 06 hrs.

After a pleasant stop at Kyanjin, morning walk leads back on same route to Lama-Hotel a small settlement situated in the middle of a dense green forest near Langtang River. Overnight in a nice basic lodge amidst lovely woods surroundings with the sound of a river.
Day 9:

Trek to Upper / Thulo Syabru village 2,118 m -06 hrs.

From Lama Hotel, our route diverts after short hour walk and then crossing a bridge to a small settlement of Bamboo. The climb starts crossing over landslide section of rocks and boulders, and past farm field to Upper or Thulo Syabru. Located on a high ridge with rows of houses with a monastery above the village with a wide field
Day 10:

Trek to Singh Gompa 3,254 m / Chandanbari - 05 hrs.

On leaving Thulo Syabru, starts with morning climb on winding trail above the monastery. As walk progress reaching higher stop and enjoy the views of Ganesh-Himal, Manaslu, Langtang and Annapurna Himalayan peaks. After a few refreshing stops climb continues on reaching the top ridge, and then on pleasant gradual path. As walk leads on a nice path amidst lovely woods to Sing Gompa for overnight stop near its old monastery.
Day 11:

Trek to Gosainkund 4,381 m - 05 hrs.

Morning from Singh Gompa, a short climb facing views of Langtang Himal with Ganesh-Himal and Manaslu. Includes Annapurna Himalaya in the far west horizon, walking into a cool forest, and then leaving the tree lines behind. On reaching at Laurabinaya high hill with few nice tea-house and shops, climb continues where tree lines stops. The only vegetation around with short rhododendron, juniper bush, slowly the climb leads to high Laurabinaya ridge. From the top a short downhill coming across Bhairab Kund, and then reaching our overnight destination at Gosainkund. A holy spot, where festival is held annually in full moon as per the Nepali Luna calendar. The pilgrims visits Gosainkund pond for ritual bathe and dip belief it delivers one into paradise and drink of its holy water relinquishes the sins of a hundred lifetimes. Overnight in a small simple lodge with time for stroll around the Gosiankund shore line.
Day 12:

Trek to Ghopte Odar 3,566 m via Gosainkund pass / Laurabina-La 4,609 m- 07 hrs.

From Gosainkund morning starts on gentle path the shore of Gosainkund pond, and then climb over rocks and boulders. After a short steep climb coming across a small glacial pond of Surjakund. The walk gets easier for short while, and then a final climb of the day. As climb heads with winding up to Gosainkund pass or East Laurabina-La, on the highest spot of the adventure. At the height of above 4,609 m /15,209 feet high. On reaching the highest point of the adventure, facing grand scenery, and then a long descend leads to Phedi (base or bottom) at 3,694 m. A place with few small teahouses and lodges for possible lunch stop. Afternoon walk continues heading east to Helambu areas, back into forest of junipers, rhododendron to Ghopte for overnight stop. Ghopte Odar means an overhanging rock cave, a perfect natural shelter for porters and pilgrims visiting holy ponds of Gosainkund.
Day 13:

Trek to Kutumsang 2,445 m - 06 hrs

After a high altitude walk within wilderness, from here walk leads to join the trail of Helambu and Kathmandu. Morning walk on gradual path into forest for an hour, and then a climb to Tharepati at 3,597 m high. A nice spot located on a ridge offers grand views of Langtang and Jugal Himal range with Ganesh-Manaslu towards west. From here descend to Mangeghot, a nice place with grassy field, walk continues downhill reaching Kutumsang village for overnight stop, a nice moderate size village with mixed hill tribe Sherpa, and Hyalmo including Tamang.
Day 14:

Trek to Chisapani 2,195 m via Gul Bhanjyang 2,125 m - 07 hrs.

Today one of the longest day of the journey to Chisapani, a scenic spot for sunrise and mountain views. Morning walk leads on winding path with few short ups and down through farm fields and villages to Gul-Bhanjyang. Located on a high ridge stopping here for lunch and refreshing break, afternoon walk to Pati Bhanjyang village. From here a short last climb of the day to overnight stop at Chisapani, a nice small village close to Kathmandu Valley rim. A lovely settlement with several good lodges, offers striking sunrise and sunset views over range of peaks from Langtang and Jugal Himal. As far towards Ganesh Himal-Manaslu and Annapurna range in the far west.
Day 15:

Walk to Sundarijal 1,380 m and drive to Kathmandu.

Last day walk of the adventure, morning after enjoying the glorious sunrise with grand panorama of Himalayan peaks. Start the morning with downhill into dense cool forest and farmlands. After hours of pleasant walk reaching a ridge top of Burlang and Chepu Bhanjyang at 2,438 m high. Overlooking Kathmandu Valley down below, as walk continues to long descent reaching Sundarijal. Sundarijal, a small farm town from here drive back to Kathmandu heading past Jhorpati and Bouddhanath. Then entering hustle and bustle busy city and then back to hotel, afternoon free at leisure for individual activities.
Day 16:

Depart for international departure.

Transfer to Nepal international airport in Kathmandu, as per your international flight time, our guide and staff transfer you to the airport. The bidding farewell to staff and guide, enter the airport terminal for homeward bound, after a great wonderful adventure on Langtang Valley & Gosainkund Trekking.
